Time Back in the Gorge

I write this from the comfort of a rented truck camper in Hood River, Oregon at the conclusion of a week long wingfoiling trip. Getting here was logistically difficult as my first travel day happened to be computer bug day also known as, “Y2K 2024 Edition.” Instead of 5 hrs, it took me 65 hrs after delays, cancelations, etc.  Regan “The Saint” made a total of six round trips to BWI to facilitate my fun.

All worth it! The Columbia River is a world famous wind destination as well as beautiful in many other ways. I’ve had two or three sessions every day since arriving with winds between a strong 25 knots and an insane 45 kts. Due to the reliable wind and opposing river current, rideable rolling swell quickly develops almost every day in the summer. In one run, my winging partner and meetup organizer, Noah, and I logged 35 miles down the river gliding the whole way, only occasionally using the wings for a little extra power to maneuver onto the next rolling wave. Hydrofoils have really unlocked the potential of the Gorge.

When I wasn’t winging, I was enjoying the company of other great people and now friends who were also part of the meetup event. We shared meals, told our life stories and mostly talked about wingfoiling. At night we found idyllic secret spots to camp in the woods or stayed close to the launch site to be ready for an early morning foil session.

I also tried my first on water interview for the new YouTube channel. Posted here if you want to check it out. It’s fun to try new ideas and see what works. I can’t wait for the next Wingfoil Travel adventure!   https://www.wingfoil.travel/events
