We decided to move ourselves into a storage unit of our choosing in order to slowly pack up and have greater control over our ultimate timeline. This decision also leaves us still able to use the move that is paid for by the military upon retirement. Maybe we will use that if we find our final stomping ground.
We rented a storage unit 4.5 hours away in Pittsburgh, PA. We thought this would be best because my family would be local and able to access the unit if we needed, and it was MUCH cheaper than anything in the DC area! We bought totes from Costco, were gifted boxes and paper from Chris’s family and started packing.
We decided that a 10×20 storage unit would definitely fit all of our things easily and the slight price difference was worth the factor of ease of packing in. Same decision for a 26′ U-Haul truck. No extreme Tetris skills needed. It will fit. Props go to Chris for driving the truck, thumbs down to his navigator Aleah who allowed him to miss his exit in Pittsburgh and therefore have to drive through a lot of construction.!
