Life at Old Forge

Last week we visited the Adirondack mountains. Mom and Dad got Mimi, Cici, Aleah and I an Airbnb on a lake in the mountains as a birthday present for Mimi and Cici, although all of us were very excited. The Airbnb was very fun, with plenty of space. There was plenty of stuff to do fairly close by, in addition to going out on the lake or just relaxing inside the nice house.

A family of loons

The house we stayed at was two stories high and it also had a basement to hang out in. Unlike a couple of past Airbnb’s there was plenty of room for everyone and everybody had their own bedroom. I got one of two bedrooms on the the ground floor, while Aleah got one on the second floor. One of my favorite things in the house was the fireplace. We used it twice and I had to haul wood for it, but it was nice. Another thing I enjoyed that Mom really wants when we get a house was the large wraparound porch.

There were many fun activities to do while we were in the Adirondacks. By far my favorite was also the one I did the most. There was a foosball table down in the basement, and at least three times per day Aleah and I would go down and play each other. I only lost four times. Three times to Aleah and once to Dad. We brought a kayak and a canoe with us to the house, and went out on them twice. The first time I went in the kayak, and then switched the next time. Aleah, Dad and I also went out on a neighborhood run once, and I enjoyed that, although Aleah would probably disagree. A very cool activity that we only did once was Mom, Dad, Aleah and I going up in a seaplane. We saw a bunch of lakes and mountains, and I’m pretty sure I saw a beaver dam. The plane was very loud on the inside, and take off and landing were quite rough, but it was very fun

The really big thing that we were told we had to do, and that we tried to do but weren’t able to until the second to last day was visit the Adirondack museum. It had many exhibits on the history of the area, and the first was the history of boating, which is important because of how many lakes are in the Adirondacks. They also had a new, temporary art exhibit. I didn’t find that exhibit itself very interesting, but there was a Native American artist who took deer and moose antlers and carved them into cool shapes. One of my favorite things was the large pond in the middle of the area the museum composed. The pond itself wasn’t that remarkable, but it was cool to see the brook and rainbow trout that it was stocked with. By far the largest part, unsurprisingly, was the exhibit full of historic artifacts from and around the mountains, with signs all about when they were used and what for and what was going on in the mountains then. I enjoyed the trip and was happy we were able to have this experience.

The four day trip in the beautiful Adirondack mountains was definitely a real treat, and I’m very happy I was able to go. We saw a lot of fun and interesting stuff, like old speedboats and loons with chicks. I got to have a delicious raspberry mocha, although I had to share it with Aleah, but there was plenty. We ate out at restaurants at least once every day we were there, and had lots of fun. I would not be adverse to going again, and you should check it out when you are in New York.
