Grabbing some Culture in Nice

We are spending a week in Nice, France. Beyond soaking up the sun after a few weeks of rain in Britain, we are here for the opera. Kathryn Lewek has the titular role in Lakmé at Opéra de Nice and we didn’t want to miss her performance. To the world she is a headline making soprano, to us she is Aunt Kiks, Chris’s younger sister.

We knew opening night was going to be a late evening, so we had an easy morning and took a midday walking tour of Nice with a local company. An afternoon nap completed the day before our big evening activity, Opening Night.

We are lucky enough to be staying within walking distance to the opera house, so we made the leisurely stroll.

A beautiful ceiling

The opera was amazing. While I knew the story line, I had not familiarized myself with the music beforehand so I was surprised that I knew The Flower Song. We must thank all those great advertisers for getting a variety of music in to our lives. I learned that this song knowledge was courtesy of British Airways commercials from about 20 years ago.
