Fun with Family

In December we went to Austin to visit my Uncle Derek, Aunt Laura, and Cousin Natalie for Christmas. My grandmother and great aunts also flew out here, although they left right after Christmas. We did a bunch of different activities both before and after Christmas and our ski trip, and I’m going to talk about some of my favorite ones here.

My mom, trying to be cool, like me.

I think my favorite thing I have done here is learn how to ride a hover board! Natalie has one and I have had a ton of fun rolling around on it. It can go pretty fast and once you get the hang of it, it is quite easy to use. The one annoyance I have is that it runs out of battery quickly and there is no warning for when it is low. Therefore, several times I have stumbled as it unexpectedly came to a very sudden halt.

Another really cool thing we did was go to the Cidercade. It is a combination arcade /brewery/ pizza place thing, and is super cool. Most of the games were pretty old, like Joust and Missile Defence, but there were also fps games and newer racing games where you sit in an actual seat. By far my favorite game was Joust. The pizza was also pretty good, we got a few different kinds and liked all of them.

I was gifted a trip to an escape room nearby for Christmas. Unfortunately, however, on the day we were scheduled to attend, we couldn’t because all their employees called sick-in with Covid. It was a bit of a blessing in disguise as I was not feeling very well myself that day. We decided to reschedule for after we got back from the ski trip, so once we flew back I couldn’t wait until it was time. Once we arrived, the guide explained the rules and showed us in. The room was pirate themed and we had one hour to complete the room and we did it in time, although we did use a few hints. When we first went in to the room we were trapped in a jail cell and had to coax a fake dog to come over with a bone so we could get a key to open our cell. Then we had to figure out some sort of rope puzzle, which I still don’t know how we were supposed to beat. Once we used a hint to figure that puzzle out a door to another room opened. We solved a bunch more puzzles which culminated in us blowing a door off of its hinges with a cannon to escape.

In conclusion, not all of Texas is one massive gun store or barbecue restaurant, there are other businesses, many of which I enjoy and wish I could frequent more but alas I can not. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll have fun in Puerto Rico! Ta ta for now dear reader, I’m outa here!!
