Fancy Dining

On our great cruise across the Atlantic we had dinner in the Britannia restaurant almost every night. The restaurant was different than others we had been to, which was to be expected because we were on a cruise. It was also quite a bit fancier than anything Jack and I had attended before.

The first time we went to dinner, the waiters pulled out our chairs for us and took our napkins to set them on our laps. We just kinda went with it and threw some confused looks at Mom and Dad. Next, my favorite part of every meal, we each got a roll from the bread waiter. My deepest regret is that we couldn’t get more.

The menu had multiple courses which was unfamiliar, but not unheard of. There was the appetizer course that usually had four or five choices, the salad course, which was vegetarian and had one or two options, the soup course that consisted of two variations, and, of course, the main course, which usually had five options, all sounding delicious. Most of the time I ordered only from the appetizer and main sections, though throughout the week I sampled the salads and soups from Jack, Mom, or Dad’s bowls. Even though I tried all the options from ox tail soup to steak, the bread, no matter what meal, remained my favorite part of the eating section of the dinning.

Fancy lunch!

The Britannia restaurant was very fancy (it required at least a polo shirt or fancier) each night before dinner we went to our stateroom and changed into nice, fancy clothes, on some nights when a black tie was requested we got into really fancy dresses 👗 with Jack and Daddy in suits. The napkins were folded into fancy patterns. Once they were folded to look like a sailboat with lots of pretty little sails. It’s very hard to pick a favorite dinner but I have come to a possible conclusion that the first night’s dinner was for me quite enjoyable, that, of course could be because I was starving, curious, enjoy steak, or any number of other reasons but the point is, it was very good.
