Down Mexico Way

Halloween at the beach

We recently went to Mexico with some other full time families. We stayed in the town of San Felipe on the Baja peninsula at a place called Victor’s RV park. We were right on the beach, although unfortunately we were in a bay and thus there were almost no waves. In front of the beach access point there was a bar/shelter called the palapa. Mostly they had alcoholic drinks, but they did have virgin pina coladas, which were really good, although every time you ordered one it was different. The first one came in a fancy glass with a cherry. The second one was in a normal plastic cup and the third one was also a glass cup, although not as fancy, but it did have a little umbrella.

We were really close to San Felipe, so almost every day we walked there for lunch or dinner. My favorite restaurant was really just a large grill on a pushcart with a huge oven for cooking whole chicken, but it was so good! They had this tall cut of pork on a spike and they called it El Pastor. It was raw meat, so when you ordered it the cook would slice it of and cook it on the grill. They had a bunch of toppings to choose from like guacamole and limes. There were also two types of salsa, one was supposed to be medium and the other was spicy, but they were both super hot, although the one that was supposedly more mild was slightly less so. Immediately next to the restaurant was a churro cart that sold ten gigantic churros for only 3 dollars! I only bought them once, but they were really good, much better than Costco’s.

We had a lot of fun in Mexico, but my favorite thing about being in there was that we could play with so many other kids. We were part of a caravan of around 20 other RVs and I made a bunch of new friends. There were a bunch of activities, some of which we participated in. My favorite one was probably being able to play some beach American football. It was one of my favorite stops and we had so much fun, I really hope we can do something like that again.
