On Friday, after driving around Jackson we visited a bend in the river called and oxbow bend to see some animals, and for once we did! The first animal we saw was a bald eagle. It was flying around overhead and flew so close to me I could hear its wings flapping. I decided to salute it, which Dad found hilarious. After a couple of flights the eagle stopped and just sat in a tree for the rest of the time we were there. However, we did see another bald eagle attack and chase off a golden eagle, which made us think that their nest was nearby. Mom has really wanted to see a real golden eagle, because she has never seen one before. It was super lucky to see one and Mom was ecstatic.
The next thing we saw was an osprey. It appeared quite soon after the bald eagle stopped hunting, and like the eagle it had no luck in catching fish. It dove down many times, but always pulled out at the last second. The eagle just watched from the tree and judged him.
Then, when we were about to get back in the car a lady told us that a momma brown bear had just crossed to a nearby island. She hadn’t seen it, but a wildlife ranger who had just arrived had told her, so we postponed leaving and just looked at the island. While we were looking for a bear Aleah saw a river otter! I never really got a good look at it, but she did. We waited and waited to see a bear while more and more people and ark rangers showed up, but eventually we got tired of waiting and left. We’ve started a family joke about all it takes to see wildlife is being in the right place at the right time, and we definitely were.
I always love seeing the animals! Thanks for your great description!
