Have you ever heard of the Thimble Islands? If so, you are very lucky! I never knew they existed and we had a joyful day touring them with the family
The Thimble Islands are a small group of rocky islands off the Connecticut coast in Long Island Sound. Around 23 of them have houses. The number of houses vary from one to over 20. Many of the islands are able to receive fresh water from shore and some even have electricity. They are summer houses with the water shut off every November and not turned back on until April. Year round living plans dashed!
A ferry boat completes a tour of the islands and will drop you at your personal residence or weeklong rental, though it appears that many of the owners have a boat or two for their transportation.
We boarded a tour boat for an hour long narrated tour of the islands and learned about some of the history, long standing families, and even pirates in the area. There are currently three islands for sale with prices ranging from $1.3 million to $35 million. Invite me over if you decide to buy one.
This little area of Connecticut seems to be idyllic and I would love to own a summer home here, but first I need to deal with my itchy feet.
