We were sad to be leaving Rome because even Chris, who hates most cities, found a love of this vibrant place.
We took the kids to ALL the typical Roman tourist stops.
The Colosseum
The Forum
All the Egyptian Obelisks
The Pantheon
Castel Sant’Angelo aka Hadrian’s Mausoleum
This place was originally built by the Emperor Hadrian (yes, the same guy who built the wall we visited in Britain) and was repurposed by the popes in later years as a castle and fortress. The Archangel Michael is said to have appeared over the castle to Pope Gregory I. He was sheathing his sword, signally the end of a horrific plague that was devastating Rome.
Both kids chose to toss a coin into Trevi Fountain, so I guess they will be heading back to Rome in the future!
Looks amazing! What a great experience. I find Castel Sant’Angelo as a relatively underrated site in Rome – though, Rome is filled with incredible historical, archaeological, and architectural wonders. @Jack/@Aleah, let me know when you’re going back to Rome – I’ll come with!!
