Today’s adventure took place at the boyhood home of Samuel Clemens. We headed to Hannibal, MO, a small town located on the banks of the Mississippi River, to see the town he renamed St. Petersburg, MO for his books Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.
We enjoyed learning about the real life people that inspired characters in Twain’s books and seeing the humble beginnings that helped shape his life.
After we finished the museum properties and took some time to wander town, it was time for our riverboat cruise.
Our hour cruise up and down the Mississippi was a great respite on the hot day and we all enjoyed the stories of Hannibal the town and some of the different businesses that use the river.
Visiting the museum and relearning about what made Mark Twain and his stories has invigorated Chris and I to read some of his other works. What is your favorite Mark Twain story?
Such a wonderful family day for Father’s Day!
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court is my favorite.
