A Day in Charleston

For our final day, we decided to see the city we have spent the last four days encircling. I hated the idea of driving the truck into the city and trying to find parking for it, so I found the bus schedule. We were in luck, because Charleston has made all the buses free for the month of May to encourage ridership. We drove to the nearby Harris Teeter, parked the truck and jumped on the bus.

The bus ride was the first time Chris got to fully look around, and I think his favorite part was when we went over the river and he could admire ALL the boats!

While waiting for the bus, we gave the kids the option of what type of audio tour they would like to do. Their choices were: Historic Charleston, Civil War Charleston, Charleston’s French Quarter or Charleston’s Ghosts. It was no surprise to anyone when they chose to do the ghost tour. Chris bought the audio tour online and we handed out AirPods. The ghost tour started at the Provost Dungeon and wandered us through the city finally ending at the old jail.

The next bus didn’t depart for almost an hour, so we decided to grab lunch downtown. One of the ghost stories had us stop outside a restaurant and told of the dog that haunts the place and that diners occasionally feel fur rubbing their legs when sitting at the table, so back to Poogan’s Porch we went to see if we could be the next people haunted.

The day ended with a quiet bus ride back to the car and campground.
