E-RV

Internet in the RV has always been a bit of an issue. At the beginning of our trip we didn’t have any internet at all, we only got it two months after the start of our trip. For most of our travels we have had a small hotspot made by Verizon for all of our internet usage, but around a week ago we switched to Starlink because we decided that the old method was just not what we wanted.

The biggest problem with the hotspot was that we only had 100 gigabytes every month, which meant we had to limit usage of our online games. We made it work, but it was still quite annoying. The main issue with the limited data was that almost every month for the past two or three months we would find out that it had somehow used between 50 and 90 gigabytes when nobody was using it. We still have no idea what was going on, but it was really annoying. Another smaller problem was that it had limited coverage. If we weren’t close to a cell tower, or if we went into another country we had no internet. For the majority of our time in of Wyoming and all of Canada and Mexico we had no internet at all, unfortunately.

Starlink does not have that problem, all you need is fairly clear access to the sky and you are good to go. We will even have internet in other countries, although we haven’t tested that yet. It also has unlimited data, so we can do whatever we want to with it. For example, before I couldn’t play any online games because it took way too much data, but now I can play as much as I want. Another, not as major, but still appreciated thing is that Starlink is noticeably faster than Verizon’s hotspot. It is so fast in fact that I can play Roblox with barely any problems. What we bought is a satellite dish and a modem router. The dish connects to fast moving satellites around 300 miles up which provides us internet. I am so glad that Mom and Dad got us this, it is so much better than our old method and I just can’t get enough of it.
