After arriving in Tucson, Chris completed a full inspection of the RV. A friend we met in Yuma shared this tip with us because he found that you have more time to deal with problems and make adjustments if you find things on day one. Unfortunately, Chris discovered that our rear bumper was about to break off.
If you recall, we had this problem back in May and paid a welder to put a new, stronger bumper onto the RV. That bumper has been great, and the welds held, but obviously the original frame had finally had enough of bouncing down the highway.
Well, the Blomshields will no longer be traveling with our bikes. Chris simultaneously called a mobile welder to fix the cracks and my brother to store the bikes. Thankfully both people answered the phone. The welder was able to come out first thing Monday morning and my brother opened his backyard to us.
The frame is fixed, again! And we are on our way to Austin to drop the bikes. Cheers to no longer worrying if a jarring bump is going to result in four bikes on the highway.
Yikes!
We had friends who’s bike rack broke off and dropped bikes all on the road without them noticing… they replaced it with a Yakima or Thule rooftop system bolted onto the back of the RV through the framework.
