Axe Me About My Adventures

First to 21 wins!

Last week we flew to the east coast to visit family, and this Saturday Aleah, T, Tanta and I went out for lunch. We went to a great pizza place called Proper Pizza. We ordered an appetizer of calamari and two pizzas, in addition to a salad for Tanta. One pizza was called the Carnivore and I can’t remember what the other one was called, but it had a lot of cheese. The pizzas were very good, the calamari not so much. The squid was too soft and the bread was flavorless, but we still had fun.

After lunch T and Aleah went to see Frozen the musical, while Tanta and I went and picked up Busia to go ax throwing. Tanta and I were the only ones who threw, Busia came to watch and take pictures. At first I was kind of nervous, but our coach was really helpful and gave some good tips, and by the end we were both hitting most of our throws. We played a few different games, but my favorite was 21. To win you have to get to 21 points without going over. If you go over you get reset to 11 points. The outer ring is worth one, the inner ring is worth three, and the bullseye is worth five. Also, the green circles are worth seven points. We played three games of this, but I only won one. The building is set up almost like a bowling alley, with lots of tables and chairs and several lanes, the only big difference is that the lane are shorter and have pine boards instead of pins. Busia was worried the whole time that an axe would slip out of on of our hands and hit her, even though the coach had never seen that in his eleven months at the place.

Bullseye!

There are two different methods to throw axes, one handed and two handed. Both Tanta and I prefer the two handed throw. To throw two handed if you are a righty you grab the very bottom of the handle with your right hand, then place your left hand on top. Line up your hands so that they are pointing at your target. Make sure the blade of your axe is pointing at the target. While stepping forward with your left foot bring your axe straight back until it almost touches your back. Release at eye level and do not throw until your left foot touches down.
