We are in Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada for the next few days and the top item on our activity list was to hike to at least one of the local tea houses. We chose to head to the Plain of Six Glaciers tea house today. It is the less visited one because it is 7.3km from Lake Louise. It is also still tourist high season so we were warned that the parking lot for the trailhead fills early. In order to beat the congestion, we decided to bike to the trailhead. This also allowed us to get a later start to our hike since it was 42 degrees when we woke up!!
The bike ride was awful. There was no direct, easy bike trail so we wound up on the road, biking with no shoulder amongst the cars, uphill for 3 km. By the time we arrived at the trailhead we were already exhausted!
The day was a perfect blend of sun and cool breezes, and the trail led us through beautiful forest, around the gorgeous lake and into a steep moraine before we reached our lunch destination.
The food was unremarkable, but we ate it all!
The hike back down was much quicker and we have still not sighted a single bear.
We are sitting lakeside (the only place we have internet in this area) and trying to decide how to tackle our bike ride back to the camper. Wish us luck!
One of my favorite hikes! I am sure it would not have been, had I biked there! 😉
I love the way Chris has embraced being retired, out with the razor and scissors…
