Even RV Toilets Break

Aleah told me a few days ago that her bathroom’s toilet was not holding water and was getting a little smelly. I investigated possible problems and determined that there was probably an issue with the flap seal.

First fix attempt is to scrub it real well. Yes, this gets your hands dirty, thank goodness for gloves! Unfortunately, the scrubbing seemed to have no effect. Next step was to order a new part.

Ordering things, while AMAZING compared to how is used to be, is still a tricky thing for us. We need to figure out how long is needed for the item to arrive and then figure out what location/state we will be in on that day to determine what Amazon locker or campground address to use. I ordered this seal in Jacksonville but needed to deliver it to Beaufort, SC because the Memorial Day holiday messed with normal delivery times.

Item arrived, now time to replace. It was fairly straightforward and only required one screwdriver to loosen a ring clamp. We had to secure the water to the entire RV because there are no isolation valves installed on RVs.

Old piece out, new piece on. Make sure you center it or it won’t work!

Now, turn the water back on and VOILÀ! The water stays in the bowl! Awesome. I bought a $17 knock-off brand piece because the name brand piece is $70. I hope it holds up well. 🤞
